Thank you Catfish Hunter!-> Seaside info
« on: May 27, 2008, 06:40:45 PM »
I appreciate the PMs regarding Seaside and the pier!  Having limited time, I did stop in on the Casino pier and met Bill.  What a great guy, full of info, friendly and down to earth. Gave me the straight info! I felt like I knew him for a long time!  While checking out the pier, I met a "kid" named Robby who fished there very often hoping to make the wall of fame some day.  His uncle is a buddy of Bill's called Big John, and he's on the wall with a monster striper. I hung out with Robby and learned about the local scene while he drowned his bait.  Nothing was biting Saturday, the time wasn't right, but my window of opportunity was very tight.  We watched the spearing surfacing but there was nothing under them. I wanted to come back Sunday morning, but couldn't get my butt up early enough. Later I headed over to the bayside and looked for the jetties but nothing was going on over there either.  Headed to A.C. on Sunday, and tried the jetty but nothing was really biting either.  I tried for fluke. A couple of guys caught a few kingfish and one guy pulled in a herring, but I only lost some weights and lures!
At least I got my feet wet.  I can't wait for my first striper.  Catfish Hunter, thanks again for the pointers.  Since my parents live in Tom's River, I will be back to Seaside Heights & Park, and OBSP!
Jeff from NY
One day I'll have a photo of me and my 1st Striper up instead of this cat.

Jeff, welcome to the site. Any questions you have, just ask. Guys here are all willing to share, as Catfish had proven to you.

Anything you can add, please do so. Keep following the advise of others and you will get your striper. Looking forward to your posts/reports.  t^

Damn,
Bill told me to come back Sunday too!  I have to start listening to people!
Yep I did see your photo on the wall.  He proudly showed it to me along with Big John's with an expletive, and his two with the bird flying! Bill told me Big John was the strongest man he ever knew!
Bill may not be friendly looking, but having a few biker friends, I could tell immediately he is a stand-up guy, and reads people very well being where he is, and he could tell that I wasn't some jerk.  Once I mentioned you, that opened the door. I'd sit down any time in-between bites to shoot the sh*t with him and learn a few things.  I enjoyed talking to Robby too, he's a good kid. I think he's the next generation version of you at that pier!   I'll always stop in to say hi, even if I'm not fishing but there with my daughter for the arcades and rides.  Thanks again for the heads-up!
Thanks for the welcome guys!  I hope to run into some of you during my excursions to the shore!
One day I'll have a photo of me and my 1st Striper up instead of this cat.
