Raritan Bay 5/29
« on: May 29, 2008, 05:29:56 PM »
launched at Sayreville around 6 this morning, fishing back bay by 6:30,started out with clams looking for the bass, only had one run off that was dropped before we could boat it,not really marking anything all morning, not even baitfish, stayed committed until about 10:30 and pulled anchor and set drifting for fluke,we had squid strips and some frozen peanut bunker from last year, first drift about 3 big sea robins, made a few moves and nothing,in the early afternoon with a strong wind against tide came up with 2 bluefish and 19 inch fluke that my neighbor John caught, also had another one up ready to net that looked as big as the 19 incher, but dropped it before we got the net to it,stayed out to about 1:30,with a strong wind moving us along against the tide.headed in facing a strong head winds.in the driveway cleaning up and enjoying a cold beer by 3.shucked the remaing clams, salted and put in the freezer for next trip.hopefully it warms up more and we'll give it another try in a few days.
of all liars among mankind the fisherman is most trustworthy.  William Sherwood Fox

Good job sticking it out. Sunday is looking like a good day to be out there.

Nice effort. Looks like Sat will be a blowout, but Sunday looks fishable + tomorrow afternoon might take a half day with our resident GULL to try our hand :)
