Not even saved by the blues
« on: May 30, 2008, 07:00:12 PM »
Left the dock with four on board and started trolling by 630 this morning.

Started just north of Shark River inlet and worked our way north. Trolled to north of Asbury Park and then picked up the lines and shot out to the Shrewsbury Rocks. Trolled all through the rocks. Not a hit on anything all morning. Pulled shad umbrellas first. No takers. Switched to bunker spoons, nothing. Ran some stretches, nothing. Not even a blue fish!

Late in the morning we switched over to fluking. Managed a dozen shorts. Two were large enough to be last years keepers. The others were in the 16" range. Also got a couple of skates. No doggies today.

Headed back in and found a pod of bunker about a mile north of the inlet. Snagged several and live lined them. Nothing. Didn't appear to be anything on the pod, not even blues. No good marks around the pods. No bird action all day.

Cancelled the trip for tomorrow due to the weather forcast. Too much wind for me. Will try again Sunday.  t^

Had pretty much the same kind of day on the Luna Sea moved all over some shorts here and there, also tried the rocks no luck stopped by the coast guard station by sandy hook drift picked up about 1 pm picked up some shorts, then the bluefish bonanza started out of nowhere, boated about 16 made a mess out of nicks boat made him happy.

Beautiful day on the water though.

Sorry to hear you didn't score on bass or blues, but it was a nice day on the water, and you caught some fluke. I too hear the wind is supposed to be bad tomorrow, may give the canal a try early(it's protected from the wind there), and then call it quits till Monday.

Skip, I think right now, in our area, you have to go out deep, where the big ones sleep.  TT^
