Attaching a teaser to your line?
« on: June 02, 2008, 02:51:46 PM »
5hrug How do you guys attach you teaser to your line? I would like to use a teaser combined with a spro when fluke fishing from a boat and the surf. Also how far up from the spro should I attach the teaser and how long of a leader for the teaser?
Thanks for the help guys!

Hi NJDEVIL Evil

You will probably have to play with the distance you like best.

I usually put a dropper loop about 18 to 24 inches above the lure of choice.  The larger the lure the further away I put it. make your dropper loop big enough to attach your teaser where it is not too long.

As far as color choices that you will have to play with it as well.  I have a whole bunch of different patterns and if something soes not work I will change it.

Good Luck

it was discussed in another post.  A few ways.. 3-way swivel it, or make a dropper loop, cut one end of it and use it to tie your spro.

I tie a long dropper loop 14" above the end of line and cut the dropper so I have about 6" of line for the teaser. I use a 4/0 or 5/0 gami and Gulp! 4" minnow....sometimes I tie a deer hair fly as my teaser, but still add a spearing or Gulp! to the fly.....try different colors and/or patterns...sometimes one works better than the other.....caught a few double headers that way last year.   I also like to use a 40 or 50 lb stick leader for the jig/teaser as it keeps tangles to a minimum.

Surgeon's loop, use the tag end to tie the teaser to and put your lure on the other end

I'll tie a 3" dropper loop about 14"s above my bucktail/baited hook.

I like to attach the teaser via a #56(?) duo-lock snap. This allows me to change teasers without having to re-tie. Never had a problem with the snap openning or failing (of course I've just jinxed myself). I've taken some nice fluke to #7 on the teaser with it rigged this way.

You could also cut one 'leg' of the dropper loop & tie you teaser to that-I use this method on occasion. Or you can pass the eye of the teaser hook through both strands of the dropper loop & then pass the teaser through the loop. I rarely if ever use this method as i don't like the way the teaser hangs off the dropper loop.
