Headed out late Friday to work out the bugs that bit me 2 weeks ago. No bait trip, wanted to run the boat and burn some fuel. Trolled the Reach with Stretch's, shad rigs, spoons and parachutes.
Same M.O. as weeks past, blues thick as fleas, although sizes were all over the place, a change from the big bruisers I've seen. Everything from 1 lb snappers up to a few 10lb+ demons. 30 ft depths between 12 & 14 LOADED with readings. Had one nice runoff on a parachute jig that popped the hook. Twister tail came up in one piece so I'm guessing bass ( I can dream, cant I ?!) Other than that its still all the drop and reel demons you could want.
Change of pace Saturday and took the family down the Navesink late afternoon to do some crabbing. Set up at the Oceanic NE corner. 3 hours, cages and drop lines and not a sniff. ZIP! Outgoing water temps shot up to 75. Didnt see any comm traps in the corner yet either. Guessing its still early.
Threw a popper at sundown and again all the 1-3lb blues you can handle. Saved the day and my kid had a blast just watching the fish hit at the surface. Called it quits after I lost the 3rd popper from biteoffs.
Not much of a report, but the boat runs well. Hopefully the problems are behind me!
Sidenote: traffic coming out of Sandy Hook was insane! Single file from the bridge straight down into the park as far as I could see.
Surprised at the light boat traffic this weekend, figured the googans would be in full force but it was relatively light on the water and the ramps.
