I hit the Point Pleasant Canal this morning at 1AM. Water was clear, a very nice incoming tide, slight south/southwest wind, barely perceptable. Conditions seemed excellent.
Didn't have a hit till 4:15 when the birds started chirping, indicating daylight was coming shortly, and by then, it had switched to an outgoing tide. Had the fish on for about 3 seconds, and he was off. Pretty sure it was a striper, as it was a new Fin-S body, and there wasn't a mark on it. Fished until 7AM, nada, and then 1 hit by a bluefish. One more hit by a bluefish at 7:20, and I called it a day, boat traffic had already increased considerably from first light, and the tide was ripping.
Although I didn't go down to the mouth of the canal, saw no birds working the mouth of the canal on my way out, and no boats fishing it. Only one guy fishing from the bank, and it didn't appear any blues were at the mouth of the canal at the time I left.
