I went to Beaver Dam Boat Rentals and took my daughter on her first crabbing
trip. The people that ran the place were fantastic and very accomodating to everything we needed and more. I rented a small boat w/o a motor and let them tow us out to the crabbing area. I have a nine year old girl who was gonna have to sit on a bucket wrapped in a blanket for privacy when she needed to go pee. The lady who runs the place made sure to tell me and my dughter Katelyn that the guys who come out and check on there boats would also be glad to run any of the woman they rent to a ride back to the baitshop to use the facilities! Katelyn took advantage of this twice! I on the other hand was able to take advantage of these opportunities by employing my God given gift of being able to "Pee wherever I Be".
The crabbing was off and on with no real "Rhyme to Reason" in tides.
There Were times when we would go for a half hour to an hour w/o a single crab
to times when there would be four or five on a pull.
We didn't have much luck with handlines so I retired them for the day and replaced them with the the extra traps that I brought. We used chicken in two traps, Bunker in two traps, and a combo in the last two traps of both chicken and bunker. In the morning chicken was the main luck
bait but as the day progressed it evened out and there seemed to be no clear cut favorite for the crabs.
At the end of the day we ended up with three dozen nice keepers 5 inches and better, a dozen or more throwbacks, probably a dozen or so "Almost had em' " On top of that, we actually boated and released 3 Turtles
It was a good day indeed!
