what pound test to you guys use to tie your striper rigs???

For the surf I like to go a little lighter than most anglers.  I use 12 - 15 lb test line and 30lb test for my leaders for bass now that the blues are in the surf I will go with a light wire leader all with sliding sinkers.

Because I hold my rod most of the time I also use a lighter sinker so I can feel it bump the bottom a little.  Depending on surf conditions I start out with 2oz and work my way up to where it just about holds bottom and cut back 1oz.

I have been doing that for so many years it is a habit I can't break because it works for me.

i tie my rigs with 30lb as well..but go with 20lb on the reel.

I usually go out with 4 poles 2 with 12# and 2 with 15#.  I guess it goes back when I was into freshwater fishing I would always bring at least one rig with ultra light line and had such a blast that it carried over to the surf.

I catch a lot but I also lose my share if the drag is not set just right.

No fish story ... about 100 stripers (with a few blues mixed in) between the 3 of us.

By the way here is a cheap trick to take care of clear line.  I use permanent markers usually red and black to color the leader.  Try it it works.

Cut a slit in the felt tip and pass the leader through and voila no more clear leader.

25 lb flourocarbon leader usually out fishes regular leaders!
