old reports ,still bassin
« on: August 03, 2008, 09:24:10 AM »
haven't had much time on the computer lately .  I will do a quick report for the last month or so.
4 weeks ago I was solo using bunker heads and chunks. up and down sandy hook and out by the banks with nothing but big sharks. Was drifting inbetween the bridge and the tip of the hook outside around 9 pm and pulled in a 27 " fluke on a bunker chunk. I was bassing.  slept on the boat and was at the rocks before anyone but nothing was happing.
3 weeks ago I fished the rips and got a few keeper bass on bunker. too many jerks out that night pulling within spitting distance from us whenever we had a fish on. Had to leave the fish before I did something I regretted.
2 weeks ago we picked up sand worms and glad we did because I couldn't find any bunker in the marina. only peanuts. we got 2 36" bass but we were out real late working hard for them.
this past thursday started off fluking and kept seeing marks that looked bunker by the rips so I pulled out the net circled around and threw. as i was pulling in the net I saw a large flash and thought I had a blue.  getting the net in closer I saw bass. % schoolies were in the darn net. I was stunned. I  was also laughing my butt off. I did a quick release. I would love to know if that is legal or not. could I have kept keepers that way? I finished off the night with only I 35" fish.
The bass are still there. Next trip I want to head out to ambrose and drift worms. I here they are there....will post some picks soon as I get my photobucket account fixed.

Good report Keith,  The fishing right now is great with everything from weakfish to shark and everything in between.  The reports are very encouraging for a good Fall run.  I am looking forward to getting out on the beach and not have to be swarmed by the green heads.

Happy Catching
