Mordecai Island and the Barnegat Inlet
« on: August 08, 2008, 07:59:46 AM »
Down in Beach Haven on a family vacation with my 2 brothers and sister and their kids. The men decided we wanted to fish so after putting up a post for a spot; went to Mordecai Island at Hotrod's suggestion.

Water around there is 15-28 feet deep and we set up a slow drift with little wind. Caught about 5-6 small flukes in the 14-16 inch range and a couple of robins. The pickings were slow and the 8-10 other boats there seemed to have similar results. Thank god Rod had told me to bring lots of bug spray so I did. The 6 boys aging in range from 5-16 were getting eaten alive, never mind the adults. As Phil Rizzuto used to say, Holy Cow.

Decided to pick up and run to the inlet hoping to at least lose the flies. As soon as we dropped the lines 3 of the boys had fish on. All 3 immediately brought up 3 sea robins. We had alot of action with the robins, and I gotta tell ya, those were some of the biggest ones I've seen. Threw a couple of fluke in for fun, but none at required size. All in all the boys had a great day fishing with their dads and cousins!

Fun just catching anything that tugs on the line. That's what it's about. Great getting the kids out and catching.  t^
