Slow down at Barnegat Ridge???
« on: August 11, 2008, 07:52:30 PM »
So all I hear about in the last few weeks is how many fish they are catching out at the ridge.  I get the boys together, and head out yesterday morning on the haul west from Barnegat inlet.  As we just pull into the fishing area, it seems that the word was out with over 20 boats around.  We dropped a 5 line spread with jet rigs, Clark spoons, feathers and ballyhoo.  We immediately go on about a 8-10 lb. bluefish that we caught and released.  In the next four hours of trolling the ridge we boated three decent Bonito... that was nice but not what we expected.  One hit a jet, one on ballyhoo, and one on a feather... no consistency either.  It didn't look like anyone else was killing it either.  Any ideas? Maybe just a bad day?

Welcome!!

What type of fish were you looking for??  Could just have been a bad day.  I have never fished out there, but I know one day the report is good and then the next day when I go fishing it is bad  hhppy!

Welcome to the site, Reelaxin.

I was wandering around the mud hole most of Sunday and didn't get a knock down. That's fishing for you. Can't get em all the time. Still an enjoyable day just getting out.  t^

We were lookin for the Bonito run that I heard so much about... But hey I would have settled for a bunch of blues, or any action.  Let me know if anyone has heard of anything else doing within 30 miles or so of Barnegat Inlet... I will keep my reports coming as well.  Thanks for the warm welcome... t^

What was the water temp? I've read a few reports the last few days that claim the warmer water moved a bit south/east. Looking at temp charts today seems to bear that out
