Boating to Sandy Hook Reef

I bought my first boat this year and would love to go out the the sandy hook reef to try some bottom fishing and anything else that may be out there.

My boat is an Angler 18 footer cc and so far has been very sea worthy.  Is this enough boat to get me to the reef and allow me to fish that area? 

Does anyone have any experience out there on the reef or advice? 

Also, Are there any other wrecks or reefs within my boats capability?  I launch out of Atlantic Highlands.

Any input would be very much appreciated.

As long as the weather is good (light winds), you should be fine in that boat.

Just keep an eye on the weather that's all.

Watch the winds which usually arrive after 2 in the afternoon.  It can get a little snarky in an 18 footer.  I would hit it in the morning and head in by noon.

Plenty of boat,watch the weather,pick your days.
Plenty of fishing in the Bays and Ocean:Old Orchard, Romer,WestBank,the Islands off S.I.,Keyport,Keansburg,The Reach.and UP the Rivers.   Good Luck.

I run a 19 to the L.E.I 5 Miles out..  There have been plenty of times I turned around after a couple miles.. if it starts getting hairy I ask myself.. I may be able to navigate through these seas.  but do I feel safe fishing in it.. and if it gets a little worse.. how bad will it be

I had an an 18' Angler and it handled seas pretty good.  Most important is a good working GPS/Compass because visability could diminish in short order and you will need it tgo get back.  Trust me I know from over 40 years on the water.
