Had George Kitzler and his mom Mary aboard for a fluke trip today. For a change of pace, went south.
Crisp morning, temps in the upper 50's and a brisk NW greeted us as we made our first few drops in 60-65' depths a few miles S of the inlet. Had immediate action with many shorts coming up, and a couple of keepers. Wiggled around a few times, caught a few more, but that petered out quickly.
Ran offshore to a rockpile, encountered some small ling, some more shorts, but by 11 the brisk NW we had dropped out, and so did the fishing. We had a major lull for about an hour. So, we shot off to a spot that produced last year at this time to the S of the AC Reef and had immediate action with quality fluke, Mary bagged her best ever at 25"/5.5# on the first drift. Couple more drifts, couple more fish.
Ran back north at 1:30, to hit a snag we were fishing a few weeks ago and had 2 more GOOD drifts with more quality fish coming up to finish out the day.
Wound up with 9 fluke in the box, 4 of which were over 4# topped by Mary's 5.5#er, out of about 30 or so boated. Also had a seabass, and 4 ling. Real good day, nice pick at the start, and then we finished up strong.
