Irish Ayes fluking 8-23
« on: August 23, 2008, 08:49:33 PM »
Had Bob Cole, Ralph, Andy, JohnnyOz and Dave B on board today. Wanting to catch big fish we headed to Shrewsbury Rocks.

On the way we decided to make a quick stop at our spot out from the red church. After two unproductive drifts there we were again on our way to the rocks.

Got to the rocks and set up a drift in an area that has produced before. Several drifts produced several short fluke and short seabass. Also DAve B got a nice 2 3/4 pound seabass from there and two keeper fluke.

Moved inshore a little to the Sandy Hook reef. Several more keepers with Ralph landing a 26 1/2 inch fluke. NICE.

The bite slowed and we motored back to our red church spot. A couple of more keeper fluke and two keeper seabass.

Total for the day, seven keeper fluke, two at 18 1/2, the rest were over 20 inches each with Ralph's 26 1/2 topping the catch. Also had three keeper seabass, several skates and three small ling.

East wind, 72 degree water today. Cut the white side of a keeper for fresh bait. Also used squid, (whole and strips), shark belly, spearing and smelt. Tried spros and only managed short fluke with them.

Give a man a fish, and he can eat for a day. But teach a man how to fish, and he'll be dead of mercury poisoning inside of three years.
