Fluking Report, Tues 8/26 Raritan Bay & Sandy Hook
« on: August 26, 2008, 06:59:29 PM »
6 a.m  Start today. Nice weather with a windy morning. Started over by Great Kills with one short, Moved out to Romer Schoal and Hooked up with 2, 2 foot Bluefish. Noticed the fleet out by Westbank light and fished the channel for a few more shorts. Headed over to Sandy Hook and landed more shorts and Sea Robbins. The Charter fleet was moving all over the place too. At the hook I was boarded by the Coast Guard for a safety inspection. Everything checked out good. They were nice and courteous. chrz
Started to head back to Keyport and tried the Keansberg hole with no luck. :'(
Last stop was Keyport buoy #1.   No luck there either. I started cleaning up and threw my extra Peanut Bunker and squid overboard. 2 Min's later a 5' or 6' shark was in the area eating the bait I discarded, It was breaking the surface and making sudden thrashing moves..
Maybe there was 2 sharks?? ???   I tossed a spro Bucktail on a light Shimano rod with a Corvalus 300 reel in the area of the shark and WHAM!!   ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!  there goes my line and then SNAP!!  20lb Power pro braided line broke. :-\
I rigged up a Heavier pole and had a few more sightings but no more hookups with the shark..
Anyway it was an exciting ending to a bad day fishing. chrz chrz

Nice report. Good hook up with the shark. They will test your gear to the ultimate.  TT^
You need a lot of 20# line and a lot of patience to try and land a 5-6' shark on light tackle.
