finally caught something.

finally after few weeks of trying i got me a fish . i went down to the inlet wall today and i got me a sea bass (or at least thats what the guy next to me said it was)about 11 inches long i tossed it back like 20 min later my brother hooked his first fish another sea bass but his was a bit bigger than mine  was alot of fun and now i want to go even more . i got a  quick question what kind of cleaning do i need to do to the rod and reel when im storing them.  thank you guys for all the help !!!!

Congrats on your first fish!  After I get back from the beach I just wash down my rod and reel with a garden hose to get rid of the saltwater and then dry it off so it doesn't rust. It works pretty well. Again congrats.

Congrats!  Yup, they are seabass!  Mostly shorts in the Inlet, but they love the rocks there when the water isn't ripping.  Kind of forgot about them in the Inlet!

You should just rinse your reel and rod down with a fine mist and dry it with a towel or clean rag!  If you used any lures or rigs, it certainly wouldn't hurt to get the salt off of them as well.  That salt does nasty things to metal... Besides that...your setup should be fine from just a couple of trips.  Eventually you will need to relube and oil, but that can wait for now.

Fantastic on your first catch that is exciting.

Your first fish was almost a legal limit fish BTW.  Sea Bass from 12" on up are ok to keep plus they are good eating.

When you do wash your rigs do not use a heavy stream of water as it will drive salt and sand into the workings of your reel and that is not good.
