Hi,
Some folks have asked me to put up a description of how to make an inexpensive reef anchor.
The picture and instructions are below, taken from the, "A Guide to Fishing and Diving NJ Reefs." BTW, if you are a boat fisherman, you should have this book. It is $20 and all proceeds go back into the reef program. The Fisherman magazine is having a special while supplies last for $15, if you pick it up at their facility in Pt. Pleasant.
I may add the following:
1. I would pour cement into the tube to weight it.
2. I would use at least 5 ft. of anchor chain.
3. I would get a bag to put this in as rebar rusts quickly and stains.
4. I would buy an aluminum one if you plan to use this a lot.
5. When (not if) the rebar ebnds, just bang it back into palce with a hammer.
6. NEVER ANCHOR FROM THE STERN!!!
Good luck,
Capt. Ed
