09/14 Bottom Fishing Report
« on: September 14, 2008, 04:42:26 PM »
Pretty much 1 stop fishing today (we did make one other drop for a few minutes towards the end of the day). Jason and I joined Capt Frank, his wife and daugther, Capt. Jerry Cirello and Joe along with his wife & 2 daughters for some bottom fishing.

Fished a piece along the Sandy Hook Channel. Action as soon as we came tight on the anchor. At first it was a nice mixture of keeper porgies & sea bass. Then it switched to a mixture of sea bass & blackfish. Towards the end it was mostly sea bass.

Porgies fell for clam strips. Sea bass for fiddlers and greens. Blackfish were caught on clam, green crab & fiddlers.

End of the day we had our 10 fish limit of blackfish (probably caught about 13-15 shorts), 30 keeper sea bass (2X shorts) and 12 porgies. Absolutely no trash fish or broken rigs made for a nice day on the water   t^.

There are types of crabs used as bait.  The 1st pic is a Fiddler Crab, which are best identified by one very large claw.  The 2nd and 3rd pic are of the green crab.
