Weakfish Report. 9-24
« on: September 26, 2008, 01:33:04 AM »
Don't know how accurate this is but according to a buddy of mine people are catching weakfish(mostly shorts) off of broadway in pt beach by the railroad bridge.  Didn't get the chance to head over there and dont know if the storm is going to affect them afterwards, but figured i would inform those of you who are searching for them.  ???

it's fun to say...
j/k
I know there are many stocked upriver and (supposedly) they have been taken there.

Frankly I think they are one and the same, or the SRBT is someone's idea of a ha ha.

OIC.  I do know that area is traditionally a very good spot for weakies and stripers both.  I don't know of anyone personally catching a sea runner from there, but it's possible. t^

That is definitely a possibility!  The Manasquan River is where they stock them.  Although, there is no mistaking a trout for weakfish or vice versa.  The mouth is a dead giveaway ;D!!

No mistaken a sea run for a weakfish....

A big one was caught on the Barvic one time flounder fishing.

You would see more caught however once over 2 lbs they return to try to spawn and dont feed well. It is more of a sight type fishing and in the manasquan river ya cant see to well ;)

Most caught by mistake by lighting jacks staging to go in the river.... all silver looking.

My Buddy Paul used to catch them in a couple of spots on egg sacs but to be honest it was a lot of effort and the pay out is slim.

Think he holds the state record.

Not uncommon to get weakies by spikes park or by the bridge by Garden state marine.

Used to get them there after workin the night trips on the cock robin....

A guy I work with says he has a friend with a house on the Manasquan further upriver.  He says he catches those browns pretty frequently.

This is all second hand of course. ;)

Bucktail,
Sea run Browns are taken on various sections of the river every year, including the railroad bridge area, and even the wall of the inlet, most of the guys that fish for them tend to be VERY closed mouthed about it. I personally know of a sea run brown that was taken in Gunners Ditch, in Barnegat Bay several years ago, which would mean that the fish came in from the ocean, up the Manasquan River, and through the Point Pleasant canal into Barnegat Bay. And the guy that caught it(God rest his soul), was a weakfish sharpie, who knew the difference between a sea run brown and a weakie.

yeah been looking for pictures or a description to help tell the difference. I have caught both freshwater browns and weakies, but definitely no  sharpie. It seems the internet is very closed mouthed about it also. Maybe someone here can help.
