Bandit Tuna oct 6,7,8
« on: October 08, 2008, 08:16:56 PM »
Joined Capt Scotty For Matt and friends Yearly charter. Capt Wayne, mikey w, and brian joined us.

Matt has been blown out so the group wanted to chunks 2 night even though it hasnt been the greatest year. Reports on the way out were promising with some tuna being caught.

Set up in 650 feet and the first night of chunking proved to be non eventful except for a couple of mahi and a shark bite off. Was a little bumpy and more than a few fell ill so everyone on the trip was hoping it calmed down for the next night Talked to other pb out there and most complained of the same fishing.

Set up for the troll during the day, trolled and trolled and trolled. Was Gonna go play with pots but it was still bumpy so Capt scotty trolled on. At around 1 pm we had 2 hook ups lost one and battled the other for 25min and landed a nice size yellowfin 70+ set the rods back up and within 10 min had 2 more hook ups landed both 30lb longfins. Thought we were in but worked the area for a long while with no more hits.

Set up for the chunk night 2, chunk was no good again . Had a small swordie and a mahi. Late in the night Matt had a huge swordie which came right to the top. But when it decided to run the line popped.

Also hooked a porpoise on the sword rod down down 300ft???? we thought it was a big sword. Bummer!!!! was free to go unharmed.... never seen this before always thought the never took a baited hook.

So only 3 tuna but couldnt of had a nicer group of guys on the boat. Pleasure going out on Matts trip ever year.

Thanks guys

Good report Capt Jerry. Sounds like you guys gave it a heck of a try. At least you had some action and didn't get the skunk.  t^

That sucks Capt. I thought maybe our trip was going to be the start of something big.  What a down year to say the least.
Hell of an effort, at least the boys didnt go home empty handed.
