Barnegat Light fishing

Does anyone have any information or advice for fishing this time of year off the walkway in Barnegat Light at the inlet? I've fished there a few times in the summer while on vaca in LBI but never seriously.

There a good walkway and easy access so I was thinking of giving it a shot. Is it worth a try? What should I use?

 if you can get by there at low tide, do so and see where there are some rock sections that go outwards from the walkway into the inlet, and a couple little rock piles in the area.

 they have been the spots for me to catch weakies on fin  s and stripers on the same, with storm lures thrown in the mix.

i fish there frequently, as i live in Manahawkin. the inlet is tough. at the walkway, the current is so strong, you need some serious weight to hold bottom. you WILL lose rigs. casting metal and poppers is the way to go. if you walk to the end of the walkway, climb down onto the rocks (i reccomend korkers) it's a long walk to the end, but well worth it, you have access from there to deeper ocean water, and the crossroad of the inlet and the ocean. caught many sizes of many species there. it IS a long walk though, dont bring alot of gear. closer to the lighthouse, there is some very deep water, and it always holds bait, so is a good try.

I fished there a few times when I lived on the island.  Mostly, right at the base.  I'm not much of a jetty jockey.  I'm probably a bit too clumsy for all that.  And I'm really not all that fond of falling on (or even worse) off the rocks!

However, fishing at the base area, I've caught weakies, blues and fluke.  I don't recall ever catching a striper in that exact spot, but I wouldn't rule them out.  When I had my boat running I would catch stripers near that area. 

As GD said, it's tough to fish bait there (although I see people do it).  If you do, be prepared to lose a lot of rigs.  Lures that have been productive for me there include bucktails, Fin-S, Storm Shads, Rattletraps, poppers and metals.
