Irish Ayes seabass. Weather was nice.
« on: October 12, 2008, 08:05:48 PM »
Had Bob G, Steve and Matt aboard today. Hit the same spot we were at yesterday (Red Church). Still a lot of throwbacks around, both seabass and porgies.

Tried further north, Longbranch, and found a lot more short seabass and porgies there also.

Saw birds circling low to the water. Went over to investigate. They were on small bait fish. The recorder was lit up with the bait. There was so much bait the seagulls had a field day with them. After tossing metal into the bait and getting no hits we tried bouncing Avas, Crocks and Cripple Herring off the bottom under the bait. Also tried various levels of the water column, nothing there.

Finished the day with a measly five keeper seabass and four keeper porgies. Caught enough short fish that we would have had our limit and then some if they were of legal size.  :P

Nice report Joe. Do you eat the Porgies? I was at the marina today by the cleaning station and saw a few Sea Robbin carcasses on the bottom. I dont think I'm ready to eat them yet. :-\

I guess even a predator fish can have to much to eat at times.
