Here is the info on the new buoy installed by Ocean Power Technologies. These are the folks who have the yellow buoys located about 3/4 of a mile west of the Little Egg Reef and is commonly misidentified as the "Rutgers Buoys". I have had some of my best fluke fishing days around those buoys.
Check out their web site at
www.oceanpowertechnologies.com. It is some pretty cool stuff and their main office happens to be about 1 mile from my home in Pennington, NJ.
Ocean Power Technologies verified the location of their new power generation buoy as N 38 29.217 W 73 13.439. The buoy is in 3,300 feet of water between the Wilmington and Spencer Canyons.
The buoy powers the Navy's underwater sensors all along the East Coast so this is a sensitive installation.
Nevertheless, this should be a major fish attractant for years to come. Hope they install more of these.
Just don't hit it in the dark. This buoy is big and heavy.
