Jason & I were joined by Larry Hart & Chris aboard Capt. Allen's Reel Class for a day of jigging. There was a 3-5' swell (not the 5-7' that was called for) early on but by the time we were done the ocean was pretty much flat.
We had to work to put a catch together. Very light & scattered bird activity and very few marks on the fish finder.
Jason broke the ice with a 27" bass. He then had a much bigger bass take his jig right before he removed it from the water. After a few minute battle the bass threw the jig. From then on it was a slow pick...fish here & there. Think we might of had 2 hooked at the sametime once or twice. Otherwise it was all singles. Chris took the only keeper bass at #12. Everything else was bluefish. The fish were not overly aggressive. They were hitting or taking the jigs real hard. In fact we missed allot of fish that seemed to be just swiping at the jig. Everything was taken on a Krocodile spoon of either 3, 5 or 7 ounces except 1 bluefish which Jason took on a gold hammered AVA.
Ended the day pulling a shad rig & a Stretch 25. With the rig taking another bluefish and the plug taking a 26" bass.
Total for the day was 3 stripers (1 keeper) and 9 bluefish with about 15 missed bites.
Oh yea Chris & I each managed to take 2 sea bass apiece on Krocodiles with 1 of Chris's being a keeper.
As always tons of good natured ribbing, laughs and ball busting....isn't that right Commodore
