Had Dave Fisher charter the boat w/ his buddy Frank for our last trip of the season on Reel Class as she's coming out for a long winter's nap tomorrow.
Ran north, got into a pretty good bite relatively early off SRI about 2 miles off. Fish were on the jigs as soon as they hit the bottom, mostly bass. Had 2 real good drifts there, and 2 of the first 3 bass that came up went in the box (31", 28"). All of the fish were on readings. That petered, out, we continued north, making stops off Deal, Long Branch, and then just inside the Rocks and out near the gas can.
The pattern was pretty much we'd get into a nice batch of fish, get them good for one drift, then have it fall apart on us. When it fell apart, we'd catch squat or pick up some of those elusive spiny dogfish which showed a liking for our tail-less 47's.
Probably the best bite we had was off Long Branch later in the day where we had 3 solid long drifts of mostly 20-26" bass and some cocktail sized blues mixed in.
Boated around 30 bass with 2 keepers (28", 31"), and probably 30 bluefish in the 2-10# range as well. Most of the bass were in the 20-26" range. All fish were taken on tail-less 47's either jigged off the bottom or on the retrieve. Overall a fair day, with solid action, of course it could've been better.
