Sandy Hook Surf

hey im thinking about going surf fishing off sandy hook tomorrow if its nice out.  any word on what might be biting, whats out there, what bait to use??? its short notice so if you read this in time, let me know.  i never went fishing this early before so not sure what to anticipate.  thanks

the weather will probably be better then the fishing

You might have a shot at some bass still...although the water temps are VERY cold, just a bit above freezing.  Even for cold water species, the bite has shut down.  Your best bet is bait...clams.  Like PED579 says, very tiny pieces of clam deadsticked out is your best option.

The weather probably will be better than the fishing, but anytime you can get out and fish is good.

Hook size, I would use a 2/0 or 3/0 this time of year on a hi-lo rig.
