RFA-NJ TO RAFFLE OFF $750 "SURFCASTING PRIZE" IN SOMERSET -
HOSTING SUNDAY SPAGHETTI DINNER IN SHARK RIVER, NJ
This weekend, the Recreational Fishing Alliance (RFA) offering members the chance to win a surfcasting prize package valued at more than $750, donated by Lamiglas, AquaSkinz and "Crazy" Alberto Knie. All Saltwater Fishing Expo attendees who take out a 1-year or 3-year RFA membership will automatically be entered into a prize drawing to win a Lamiglas 11-foot, two-piece, graphite Surf & Jetty rod, along with a deluxe, 3mm semi-dry top and plug bag from AquaSkinz. These top quality surfcasting items donated by longtime RFA supporters AquaSkinz and Lamiglas are essentials for working the spring surf when the striped bass run kicks into gear along the New Jersey and New York coast, and together are valued at over $500. As an extra incentive to join, Alberto Knie is also donating one of his limited edition, signed lithograph prints, a popular yet pretty rare piece of original art, valued at $250 to start.
You can meet "Crazy" Al in person at the Expo, as he conducts surfcasting demonstrations (weather permitting) sponsored by Daiwa and Lamiglas. As always, the Expo seminars are loaded with information geared towards the season ahead. Taking top billing at this year's Expo is Capt. Jose Wejebe of the weekly ESPN2 television program, the Spanish Fly, who will present free seminars in the Interactive Seminar area on Saturday at 11:30 a.m., and again at 2:30. The RFA's Managing Director, Jim Hutchinson, Jr. will give a talk on Live Bunker & Trophy Stripers in the main seminar area on Sunday, March 22. "Grassroots activism by northeast anglers got the menhaden protection effort going strong in the mid 1990's, but ultimately it was the legislative efforts by RFA lobbyists that stopped the industrial depletion of those bunker stocks in coastal waters," said Hutchinson.
"Without RFA, we wouldn't have this outstanding spring fishery for striped bass," said Crazy Al. "I've always been a proud member of RFA and I'm especially proud that I can give back to this organization that helps support our coastal fisheries." Hutchinson added, "to have Al and Lamiglas and Aquaskinz show their support this weekend with this unique prize package, it's a good reminder that the RFA members can win some of the most important battles by working together."
The Saltwater Expo in Somerset, NJ kicks off at noon on Friday and runs until 8 p.m. Doors reopen again at 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Open until 6 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday. The RFA member who wins the grand prize raffle will be notified during the week of March 23. To learn more, visit
