Frozen Drain Plug
« on: April 05, 2009, 05:42:17 PM »
My drain plug was frozen when I pulled the boat last fall.  I had a heck of a time removing it. Well I'm just about ready to put it back in. Anyone have any secrets so this won't happen again.

Keep in mind to look at the thru hull fitting and make sure you did not break the ceal between fitting and hull when you had to use force on the plug to get it out.Boat has to be out of the water to check the easy way, other wise the hard way to check is a bilge full of water    cfzd

I usually grease  the threads befor installing. As mentioned, check the receptacle  that screws in the hull. I can't tell you how many boats I've spring commissioned and as I tightened up the plug and had the whole thing break free. Corroded screws, aged sealant, enlarged screw holes were usually the culprit. Capt.Matt
