Fish On ! Game time in the Raritan 4/5/09
« on: April 05, 2009, 08:06:30 PM »
Steady winds and April showers made it tough for most that planned to get in the water this weekend. Flounder fishing in the Raritan bay is slowly turning up along with the ocean temperature. The Back Bay is also producing bass with about 1 out of  5 being a keeper so far. This is a great sign to kick off the bass season in the bay.

Clams and worms are the baits of choice if you can find them, for both Raritan Bay flounder and bass. Rumors of big bass surfacing within casting distance from Morgan Creek to Sandy Hook had surf anglers lining the beaches looking to kick off the 2009 season with a keeper and bragging rights.

According to NJSaltwaterfisherman.com reports, Captain Jerry aboard the Misty Morn had a slow flounder pick but he has been able to lock in on some decent bass action along the Keyport flats to save the day. With ocean temperatures starting to hit the 50 degree mark things will get much better from here on in.

For now the race is on to get all tackle in order, hope for good weather and pick a day to take off and fish. With big bass sightings and rumors of bunker already in the bay, surf anglers and boat owners are scrambling to get in the water as soon as possible. One thing for sure, it’s game time in the Raritan.
