04/05 Raritan Bay Floundering Report
« on: April 05, 2009, 03:22:50 PM »
Jason and I were 2 of 7 fares aboard the Misty Morn today with Capt. Jerry C. at the helm. Fished both the Morgan & Keyport flats, with the edge going to the Keyport flats.

Floundering was a very slow pick as only 7 were boated, another lost on top & several bites missed. Jason & I each had 1. High hook was 2. Fish were taken equally on clam and sandworms. Bubblegum pink or orange twister tails seemed to draw the strikes.

Fortunately, I had the foresight to bring some lighter bass fishing rods. This provided Jason and I with action for most of the trip. As he landed 7 bass (1 keeper) and I landed 6. One other fare also had a rod set up for bass & he caught 5. All bass taken on clams.

Jason landed the first flounder of the day and it held up to be the pool winner.

Sounds like you guys had fun, eventhough it was slow picking.
Hey, I see you live in Bayonne.  I was in Bayonne on Saturday.  I see the bait store on broadway (35 street somthing like that) is closed, the one next to the liquor store.
I ended up going to jersey city since i couldn't find another bait store.
MAN WORKING!!!! WOOT WOOT

They are still in Bayonne, they just moved about 1/2 block south on the other side of the street.

At least 2 of the flounder that were cleaned on the boat yesterday still had roe in them..so it appears that some are not spawned out yet. But like Tom said, fish were cold to the touch.
