Thanks guys.  Striper74, the kayak is a tad over 28" at the widest beam.  She is very stable and I am looking forward to getting her wet Saturday morning.  I think the wife is going as well.  I think she is looking forward to this as much as I am.  I think she has aspirations on having her own as well.  I know my daughter is already hinting.

Hey Ped,
That's great that you got your kid involved!  I took my 3 year old daughter on the shakedown cruise when i bought my boat!  It was March  in Rhode Island 2005 Naraagansett Bay)  She was standing on the console seat at 28mph!  Had to wrap my arm around her..  Me and the wife would do "picnic" cruises and beach on the many islands there.... and the Quonset air show!  We could see all the planes practicing for a full week before the airshow! t^  Very Cool!  My lil girl is 7, and lil boy almost 3, so maybe this is the year for them....but I don't think the lil guy is ready!  Might be 2010!  Anyway, ask Kezsr as it's his boat now (for all intent and purpose...boat needed a new trailer...he bought it...needed a new motor...well, you know the story!>>>and not counting all the money he put in the old motor!!!)  At least he takes it out 2-3 times a week!  At least  pop does'nt rub it in!  He's out right now,  if I could go I'd be there!

I hear ya.  Well my little girl is 19 going on 20 and she still likes to go fishing whenever I tell her about it.  Now with the kayak and the new adventures that lie ahead she wants to be in on it but like with any college kid the money is tight.

I might start looking for a good used boat or 2 if my wife and daughter like it.  The only problem the vehicle can only handle so many boats... :P

Paul,
I'm really considering getting a freshwater license this year....  If nothing else, so they get the BUG!

Thanks seaflea,  it took long enough but I am satisfied that I took the time to search the right boat for my.  I think that is the key to kayaking and enjoying it.  I will be going out to IBSP and putting her in some time tomorrow.  The wife will be going as well so I guess I will have to share the boat with her, hahaha.

I just went back to JP to pick up th elocks for the hullavatoe.  I would hate to have them walk off.  I know it won't detur the hardened thief but it will keep the good people honest.

Striper74, getting your freshwater tax er I mean license is a great idea.  I bought mine this year as well and looking forward to using the kayak on some of the lakes around here in Ocean County.

Happy Catching

Paul

Thanks about the lawn guys.  I do have one problem with it this year.  During the last snow the twp went through with the salt trucks and now I have a patch of dead grass that I will have to dig out and replace with new top soil and re seed... :P

Now that you mentioned exploring Barnegat Bay I am looking forward to doing just that.  I can remember going blueberry picking out of my 14' Jon boat in a small creek in the back of Mosquito Cove just off Silver Bay.  I wonder if the blueberries are still there.  You can pick them right from the boat and not go on land at all.  Pretty cool.  That all used to be the Brown property if I remember right.

Sounds cool, Paul!  There are certainly a lot of places to explore out there.  Was that area also the Brown Property...you are talking about the area at the end of Bandon Rd by what is now OC Park and Rec right next to Cattus Island??  I know the Brown's also had property down on Money Island on Haines.

I know that property well as we used to drill out there for Emergency Management.  But that is the property where he OC P&R building is now.  I used to live on the other side of that swamp and had run ins with him all the time.  In fact I called the EPA on him once for trying to fill in the swamp on a Sunday, to build houses there, boy that was a fun meeting.  Now that you mention it Brown does not sound right.  He and his wife used to own the Berkley Water Co.  Darn a mind is a terrible thing to loose...
