Reel Class Flounder 4/19
« on: April 19, 2009, 07:29:34 PM »
Had the Matt Spano charter aboard today for a flounder trip. Our sunny, 75 degree day on Saturday was a long gone memory as the mercury never really crept past 52* degrees all day today.

Started out right where we left off in the river but found a wicked wind against tide situation - with that we still managed a few fish early for the box. Once the tide started dropping out we started swinging, so I made a few wiggles, caught a couple more, then we lost the bite. I took a gamble and ran waaaay back river to give the area around the 70 bridge a shot - not even a sniff!

So, we ran back to the stretch between 35 and Clark's, and got a good bite going in some deeper water near the channel, where we had a nice flurry with some smaller fish, including a couple of throwbacks. Tried another spot closer to the 35 bridge so that we could at least get some moving tide - again nada.

We finished up the day with 2 drops real close to home and put a few more in the box as in the incoming water and E breeze made us sit nearly perfectly.

Worked real hard for our take today, chummed our asses off and wound up with 12 fish for the box. Big fish went to Bob who got a nice 17" 2# flattie.

Again, all but 1 of the females was full of eggs. This might just be getting started!
