Raritan Bay Stripers - 4/18
« on: April 19, 2009, 10:19:14 AM »
Had the crew from last summers late season Fluke-a-thon on board and T-bone to look for Stripers.  We took a short detour to GK to look for bunker.  A netter was in the harbor earning his keep.  We managed to mark scattered fish with one on a snag before deciding we spent enough time besides, the hillbillies from PA were anxious to cut their teeth on the Stripes.  Planned to fish the Shoals in the upper bay but elected to stop near the 19/20 can based on Kezsr's post the evening before to see if anyone was home.  We marked a fair amount of fish and dropped the tooth.  Began chumming and right out of the gate Witches Bru hooks into a nice 28.5" to put in the box.  Action continued with schoolies and others just shy of legit that would have made a fine meal if the slot was still in effect. Everyone caught except me but had a blast watching the action.

Count for the day 20 fish. 18 stripers (1 keeper), 1 foul hooked keeper flounder, 1 skate and oh yeah, one snagged bunker.  Lots of laughs and good times. Washed up and headed to Belmar for a great time.  Pics on my brother-in-laws camera. Will post.

Sorry for the delay on pics.

Awesome day out on the water brother. You dropped us right on the fish. What a way to finish off a day of fishing with friends and those from this site for a spectacular evening event. Kudos to both you and this awesome sight!
And congrats on passing your Captains test. I don't know what to call you now - Pilot, Jeff, or Capt?
