Bluefish, Bluefish, Bluefish
« on: May 01, 2009, 03:51:48 PM »
4/29 - Had to take the boat to Riverfront down in Brick on Wednesday for some routine maintenance and a thermometer problem - so along the way I made some casts in my favorite bass spots and caught, you guessed it, cocktail blues to 4# on white shads.

4/30 - I had the day off today, and with the boat laid up for a day or two more due to the engine work I had half a day to kill before my grad class tonight.

Wound up taking a ride down to the Monmouth County bayshore, fished a few spots on the W side of the bay with my plugging rod, tossing plugs and metal to no avail - but watched guys catch bluefish on chunked bunker and clams - no bass.

I then took a ride further E after grabbing lunch at one of the best Deli's in NJ (Slater's), and found A LOT of life right at the top of the tide.

Had to walk about a half mile to get to them, but for the twenty or so anglers that were both wading and on the beach, it was bluefish in the 8-12# range on almost every cast - plugs and metal. I hooked countless fish - mostly every other cast or so, landed some, dropped some... My arms are killing me - this is a good thing after the poor flounder season we had  TT^

Go get em' boys, this weekend should be fun if the weather holds  t^

Does Slaters still make a huge sandwich. When we were kids we used to have bets on who could finish a whole sub. Brought back some good old memories.

Can you give us a better 20 on the Slater's Deli.
I always enjoy a good sandwich especially after fishing too.    Thanks AJ.
