Shad dart / bobber rig for fluke
« on: May 21, 2009, 09:30:14 AM »
A couple of guys mentioned using shad darts with bobber for fluke.

Sounds like an intersting method. Can anyone give some details on the rig?

Don Kamienski's book on fluke covers a "bobber" rig using a live killie over flats where a boat may disturb the feeding fluke in the shallows.

He also discusses a shad dart dressed with bait for shallows fishing in 3-5 feet of water, but not with a bobber.

Don't see why it would not work in the flats similar to those around Barnegat Inlet.  Certainly wouldn't be a choice for deeper water or channel fishing.

Very hard to use in the Sandy Hook area where the current is strong, but I did use them in the back bay's of LBI, like the X buoy in the Middle grounds.  A shad dart with a single killie, cast out and slowly retrieve back to the boat with a jerking motion did me wonders back then.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

Since I'm fishing out of Tuckerton this year, I need to learn some of these super skinny water techniques.

I wonder how those rattling floats like they use on the gulf would work?

A lot of guys use the float behind the stink house where the stakes are.

Their objective is to keep the bait just above the grass bottom so the fish can see the bait and the bait does not get loaded with the grass.

Hey Bassblues, as captain Joe said that is the purpose, especially those areas helps to keep bait clean and gives access to those shallows. Go to Scott's bait and tackle tell you need a grassy channel rig and you will get a large bobber shad dart swivel and tips how to adjust. I think they also use 10-15lb floro.

Have had great success using shad darts for fluke in the Manasquan river tipped with a variety of baits and weakies tipped with sandworms but no bobbers for me.  nosmly
