July 4th weekend crabbing
« on: July 06, 2009, 11:06:09 PM »
Went out Friday and Sunday for about 2 hours each.  Hit Mantaloking one day and Seaside the other.
Decent numbers, but all small (2-3in at best).  Only 1 keeper size from all that.  Everyone was seeing the same results.
Couldn't ask for better weather though.

A little while longer water needs to get a little warmer. I will be out with the kids on the Navesink in late July and August. Get the butter ready

Good try!  Seems to be the general consensus going around...lots of little crabs, but nothing to keep from the docks.

I have a couple of friends that have been out in the Barnegat Bay in boats and are doing well...of course they can move around and hit lots of areas.

I also read a lot of reports from Beaver Dam down south.  You have to rent a boat to get out there, but it is a little less expensive than renting here because they tow you out.  Really good catches of bushels with crabs being all over 5".  It looks like a fun day out if you really like crabbing and don't mind the added expenses and drive.  I would do it, but the kids are not to boating age yet.  So I will hit the docks in a week or two.

I can already taste the crab, yummmm!
