Alternative to Gulp
« on: June 01, 2009, 11:40:59 AM »
Was checking out FFO-tackle and ordered some Power Bait 4" minnow grubs.  Figured for the price(under $2) they'd be good for when the Gulp swim mullets are getting chewed up too quickly.

Tried them out and had great success with short fluke and sea robins.  Switched between them and Gulp on the bucktails and didn't see any increase/decrease in catch.  of course I couldn't land a keeper rofla

The actual bodies of these are a bit more dense than Gulp and seem to hold up longer.  Nice tail action too.

What's good is they always throw in some free stuff for you with your order.  Sometimes it's crap, but this time it was two packs of pre-rigged Power Bait shrimp.  Tried those for a while as one pack were 1oz and managed some jumbo sea robins and short fluke as well.  Figured it would have been good as quite a few fluke were spitting up mantis shrimp.  Will try them again. t^

So if you're looking for a cheap alternative to Gulp, order a few of these . slt

They were basically the prototype for Gulp products and now can get them at a steal. t^

Thanks Mike.  I just picked up a bucket of the Gulp for Wednesday's trip to CBBT.  I will also be picking up spearing and squid to cut up into strips for the fluke.

Happy Catching

Thanks for that heads up. Did you try to soak them in the gulp Juice? Wonder if it would improve the action.

Cool Mike. Sounds like we can mix em up with the gulps and twisters when the bite is on.   t^
