Spearfish Weekend Report 5/31
« on: June 01, 2009, 07:50:34 AM »
We started fishing near Perth Amboy today with clams for stripers.  The first 2 hours we had constant action and managed to boat 8 bass and a couple of bluefish.  When the action slowed we decided to head out for some fluke.  We were  near the triangle area and I just boated a nice keeper and I get a call from a friend.  He tells me that another friend is way down the beach slamming big bass.  I asked the crew if they wanted to make the run and of course they did.  We head out towards the rocks, but find several schools of bunker on the way.  We snagged some and drifted through and around some schools, but all we caught was bluefish.  We saw a fin near the bunker schools and I was hoping it was a thresher, but it turned out to be a sunfish.  Still pretty cool. We were near some numbers where I have done good with fluke in the past so we decided to give it a try.  We caught a bunch of shorts and one keeper, but we also got into some sea bass of whch 12 were keepers.  The biggest seabass was 3.9 lbs.  We did this a while and when the tide changed and the action died we headed down to the rocks.  More bluefish.  The wind picked up and we called it a day.

Went back on Sunday to try and get the morning bite again.  My son brought 2 friends today I anchored up in the same area as yesterday and started clamming.  The bite was much slower, but we got 6 bass - all short and some blues.  We went near the triangle and boated some short fluke and one keeper and we were back by 12:00.

I put some pics up this time.  The 2 kids with the 2 stripers are from a trip about 2 weeks ago, but the others are from Saturday.
