Reel Class Fluke-Bottom 6/7
« on: June 07, 2009, 08:21:41 PM »
Had George Push, Ed and Will Meyer, and Ed's buddy Bill aboard for an open trip today. As George said this was slated as a bass the fluke/seabass trip - but with no solid intel on bass anywhere N or S we decided we'd head out to the reef for some seabassin'.

First drop was in 75', some N current, no wind, so we flopped. Picked away at the bass and a few ling. Made a few wiggles, more of the same. SE wind started coming up a bit as the tide slacked, so everything changed, but we continued to pick away and put meat in the box. At best the bottom fishing was a steady, slowish pick but we put a real nice catch together by noon time.

Once the SE really started kicking up things started to shut off, and with a crew member not feeling too good, we headed back inside around 12:30 to finish the day drifting between the canal and 35. Water was real dirty from the runoff, real churned up, and we only had 1 bite, but luckily that one bite became George's only fluke @ 4.05#. That flattie that fell for a bucktail with a gulp teaser.

At day's end we wound up boating probably 70ish seabass, with 30 going in the box, as well as 13 fat ling topped by Ed's monster baseball bat poop belly of 5#, and the one nice fluke taken by George. All the bass we kept were over 13", threw back loads @ 12" again

Good day, lots of bent rods, and the guys went home with full bags of fillets - can't ask for much more!
