Sea Hawk Flukin' 6/10
« on: June 11, 2009, 11:13:11 AM »
Met with about 30 anglers including some of the JP II regulars (Capt. John of the JP II has had bypass surgery and will be on the mend this summer) on the Sea Hawk for the 7 AM trip. Had a chance to meet Gottog who was easy to recognize from his Avatar photo. Always nice to meet a poster from the site.

It was a pretty good day overall, except for the weather which was overcast, hazy and drizzling most of the AM....started at the back bay and worked our way through the bay channels and off of Sandy Hook beaches.

The bite varied through the day, picking up after the tide change late in the day; overall a good day of fluking.

Lots of shorts, but lots of keeps, which I guesstimate about 25 to 30 for the boat.

Gottog won the pool with a nice flattie and had a few more that I saw him bucktail up.  I had a nice dinner fish.

Nice job today by Capt Mike and his hard working crew....mates were on the spot with the net and to help with tangles.

Bucktails and Gulp! seemed to work best today.

Good to meet ya MGM.  chrz

Was worried there wouldn't be enough fares to sail and surprised close to 30 showed up.

Overall a pick of fish with some good flurries of action.  Bite is still off on the bucktails IMHO. They still ain't stopping them with force or atleast haven't been while I've been out on the water.

Bummer of the day was when I swung in a bluefish and somehow lowered my rod too quick and slammed it into the rail...rail 1, graphite blank 0.  SNAP!  Already have my call into Billy, my rod builder, and he's getting me a replacement blank.

Switched to my old reliable GUSA 704 conventional aka Gottog's Bucktailing stick and put a few fish over the rail.  Ended up with 3 keepers and just got the pool with my biggest.

Damn smooth doggie made me think I had a bass on hhppy Was a pretty big doggie though.  Safely released too. :P

Did hear that they had a very small crowd out for their Magic Hours trip afterwards and had some action.  High hook had 4 keepers.

They're out again now and just picking away.  Think he only has 7 fares today cfzd One guy does have 3 keepers already, but overall was slow I'm told.

Almost forgot, sabiki'd up some tinker mackeral before we set sail. Did add one to my Spro/Gulp combo and did catch a few shorts, birds, and pool winner on it ;)
