Had the Joe Collins charter aboard today, consisting of Joe, Marius, Noel, and "Toilet Paper" Dave. Initially started out drifting for fluke close to home, catching short after short, but got a call the bass bite was going on a bit from my neighbor Fred and we shot outside.
Making bait was no problem. Joe was helping snag bunker, and almost immediately had a bass inhale a snagged bunker - got her to the boat, a solid 35#, Joe's best ever. At this point my goal was to get each of these guys one of these pigs.
Continued working small broken off pods by ourselves, nowhere near the fleet, and started getting a little bite going - had a good number of runoffs, dropped a few, missed a few, etc. Second fish to the boat belonged to Noel, a nice fat and long 40# slob who had 3 whole bunkers in the gut. Dave then nailed another slob of 38#, and Marius took a nice one @ 23#.
These guys all nailed their personal best bass - congrats to all of them!
Bite sorta died off a little by noon time, so we finished up drifting for fluke in the river, picking away here and there. Wound up with about 30 shorts, no keepers.
This crew was one of a kind, I think I pulled a muscle in my side laughing at TP Dave's stories and exploits - the dude could do stand up.
Undoubtedly the bass made the day, another fantastic day in what has been a GREAT spring season!!!
