Pilot - Flukin 6/19
« on: June 19, 2009, 10:56:03 PM »
Missed the ride with the McGuivers (MJ and Miaggi).  Attended to a school event for my youngest daughter this AM.  Called Donnie to see how he was doin and got word that he had a bite going.  Gathered the gear and down the parkway in no time.  Headed to keyport area and dropped alongside a couple others working the 1 can.  No luck for me.  Made some adjustments searching new territory in shallow water.  Nothing.  Spoke with Capt Don jr and he suggested motoring over his way.  I pull up and watched him cross eyes on three fish while I'm still getting my act together.  I'm down and dirty with spro, killie fresh bluefish fillet (caught under working birds in the Shrews) and nothing is happening for me.  Don swings buy and flings a magic envelope my way.  He's like Western Union!  He's been out for the morning and by this time it's getting close to noon.  He's got a couple nice fish boxed and heads back to the barn.  I'm still looking for the first touch.  Wouldn't you know ten minutes after he takes off, I'm onto 5 fish on the magic rig dressed with a killie. Things quieted down just as quickly as they lit up.  Made another move into 10.5 ft of water and hooked up with a keeper just edging out 18" and fraction along with another short.  Called it day.  Water temps just eeking out 70, water clarity was a ok but got progressively more stained as the day went on with scattered debris and algae.

Don, thanks for breakin the ice for me  ;) The rig did the trick.  I was beginning to question everything I was doing   ???

Been reliant on old techniques.  Goes to show you that you've got to experiment and then settle back down and fish!
