6/27 - Manasquan
« on: June 27, 2009, 10:15:38 PM »
Once more the bass were no where to be found for us, and neither were any bunker.  5hrug Gave it a good shot anyway and ended up at the Sea Girt Reef with a few short fluke but managed a keeper. Also scored a keeper sea bass out there. Gulp and squid seemed to be the ticket.

A beautiful day on the water, and some meat for the table.

Heading out sharking tomorrow with a co-worker.  cfzd

Don't give up on the bass just yet. The bite has been in the late afternoon/evening lately.

Good luck on the shark trip.  t^

The suck part is, I read all the reports of bunker everywhere this and that and I wonder if its me? Am I doing something wrong or are they just not there?

Anywhoo, 1 8ft. blue shark (my first) today and a couple of monster blues at the Mud Hole.  t^

I hear you with the "is it me part!"... you have to be out real early or real late...6 to 9 pm seems to be best...then you need to be lucky to be on the bunker that the bass are on. Like someone told me...you need to have a network of fisherman willing to share info on where the bite is...its a big area by yourself.

Where were you seeing bunker? We ran south first towards the Axel Carlson and saw nothing but a few dolphins. (which was very cool) Then we ran north up to Belmar and didnt see anything either so we headed out to the reef.  5hrug

Are you sight spotting or are you using electronics.  If you are sight spotting that might be your problem.  Many schools are at different depths and only come up to get away from predators slamming them from underneath.

Many times the bass are not with the bunker and are found only on structure when using the fish finder. If you can't find the bait go on the radio and ask on 65'68 "anyone got an eye on some bunker, I'm just leaving Manasquan" or whatever port. Read all reports especially from Jerry on Fish Monger and Allen on Reel Class. Lately the bass fishing has been spotty especially on weekends. Fish weekdays and evenings for best results. Hope this helps   ;D

I'm trying to do a little of both but I'm new to it. I think we were too far out more like 50'-60' but I still didn't see anything on the screen or visually. Every now and again I see a few of what I assume to be baitfish coming up to the surface and splashing then going back down but thats about it.

I'm going out with Jerry on the Monger Friday night so hopefully he can teach me a thing or two.  ;D
