5/25 I think you're all jerkin my chain!
« on: May 25, 2009, 07:44:42 PM »
Headed out with my co-worker today for his first run this year after putting the boat in yesterday morning. Decided not to go out in my boat for its shakedown run and chance the long drive home from Toms River on the Parkway.

Broke the inlet into the bay around 900 and after getting up on plane for 2 minutes, the motor bogged down and stalled. A quick survey found some water in the fuel, changed filters and tried to run the crappy gas out. Finally got it to run worth a damn and aimed back in to top off the tanks with fresh gas and regroup.  rgmn

Broke the inlet around 1030 and after 4 minutes of being on plane, bogged and stalled. Changed filters again and drained the bowls on each carb. Finally it seemed to clear up but we both agreed to stay close to home.  rgmn

Set up east of the triangle and put out clams and bunker chunks. Nothing but a few taps and 3 or 4 runoffs for a while and then Al hooked up on a small blue. That was it for the rest of the day. Trolled some Stretch 25's for a bit and aimed back in.

No bunker, no birds, no nuthin. 5hrug

Hopefully we'll get out this week.

depending on the engine and year, if your water separator fills up and goes into the engine, there is a compartment in there that will catch the water and stall out the engine before it seizes it up.  You may have to check with your dealer.
Fish out of Toms River NJ.

Great effort. Hopefully the fuel problem will be solved by the changing of the filter and cleaning out the bowls.

Get em next time.  t^

At least you were out.  This weekend has been all work and no play around the house.  Thats okay as it is all done except for opening the pool which I will do before the weekend is here.

The motor is a 2000ish Johnson 175. It wasn't my boat but I was the resident mechanic. I did see some sort compartment, but I was unable to determine much more than that, and I wasn't about to go exploring especially on the water.

It seemed to clear itself up the more we motored around. And on the way back we picked up and opened it up for a good 15 min so I think we got it.

Sucky day but at least we didn't get towed in.  t^
