Steve & John picked me up at 3:45 am Sat morning.
We loaded Steve's truck with my gear and off we went.
2 hrs later we arrived in the Hampton Bays.
We got to our spot & and a few minutes later LI Arty arrived.
Arty says Art every time you show up we catch.
I said ain't that something
John & myself baited up and Steve & LI Arty moved there trucks near the inlet.
For the 1st hr it was slow.
An hr goes by & LI Arty hooks up 1st.
1st Bass was 27" Schoolie.
LI Arty baits up again & he hooked up again.
This time it was a 30" keeper.
From a distance I see Steve's rod doubled over & his sand spike gets knocked down & Steve ran for his life.He grabs the rod laying in the sand & we all knew he had a beauty.Steve faught the Bass and from a distance the fish comes to top of the water & all we could see is the tail.Bottom line Steve landed a 40" Bass approx 26 lbs.For the next 2 hrs we picked away.
3 hrs later the 4 of us caught 13 Bass from 27"-40".(4 being keepers)
After we were done catching John & myself went clamming & we mustered up 3 Doz Cherry stones.
By 3pm every beer we had in both coolers was gone
At 4pm we stopped for Clams & Oysters and a few more beers.
Now the day was still young & we knew Steve's brother Richie was having a party & at his house in South Hampton. We took the short ride to Richie's house.
Remember we had Fresh Striped Bass & 3 Doz Clams for the grill
Richie & Sally grilled us dinner like there was no tomorrow.
2 hrs later we left Richie & Sally's house & went over to Steve's cousin's Jeff house and spent 2 hrs there
John wanted to drive home. After all he drank all the sodas in the cooler
As soon as the truck started Steve & myself were out cold ! I finally woke up & looked up & we were in Franklin Lakes NJ in no time.
John a big thanks for getting us home safe
At 11 pm I fell asleep & never woke up until 11 am on Sun.
A great 4th it was !
