I mainly catch and release for a few reasons. My main reason is because after hoofing it to my fishing spot and being that I like move and walk a lot, I just don't feel like carrying around fish on top of my gear. No one else in my family eats fish and in my extended family only my mother and father in law will eat what I bring home. I also despise cleaning fish at home...and there aren't many cleaning stations on the beach, like the marinas have at the dock. I don't mind cleaning fish, just not at home on the counter. Maybe most imporantly, I like to return them so that they can be caught again.
However, I will keep fish, if I know someone will eat them. On PB, I have given my catch away after they have been filleted. I will also keep a fish that is legal and will die because I caught it. I will also keep any keeper fluke or flounder caught and if I had the ability, I would take my legal limit of crabs daily, as these are my 2 favorite seafoods to eat!
I also have no problem with anyone that keeps legal fish. What they do with them, is none of my business. They are completely entitled to them and just because I don't keep them, doesn't mean someone else can't. I also have nothing against someone who keeps a trophy fish, just because it is a trophy fish. This is a sport and just because I might choose to release a fish, doesn't mean someone else has to do the same thing. I am fishing as well and hooking the fish the same way the other fisherman is...
