Jumped on the Misty's magic hour trip this evening after spending the day at the beach with the family.
Started off making 2 drifts by the lighthouse before moving further to the west to fish off the old ferry docks. In both areas the drift was very fast as the brisk west wind was coupled with the outgoing tide. I did however managed to get 1 short and miss 2 other bites bucktailing near the old ferry dock.
Moved back out in the bay. Made a few drifts on the red side of the Reach with a handful of shorts coming aboard. Drift was still on the fast side (even tried using a 3 ounce bucktail) and the fluke were just not responding to the bucktail/teaser. Those dragging bait were putting some fish (shorts) in the boat so I decided that if I can't beat then I'll join them. I quickly put 2 shorts of my own in the boat. Moved over to the green side and found a nice pocket of fish. Conditions improved to the point were I was able to go back to bouncing a 1.5 ounce Spro with a teaser. It took me a while to find out what cadence of bouncing they wanted but once I did, I had a bite almost every drop.
Only 2 keepers were taken by the 8 fares (Jay the mate also caught a keeper). I had about 10 shorts. All but 1 were all between 17-17.25"s with the other @ 15"s. Had one 17" pull a good 4-5 seconds worth of drag on me and at first I thought it was a bluefish before I felt the headshake, then I was thinking nice fluke but alas it was just a short with a lot of attitude. The teaser accounted for all fish during the last hour of the outgoing & through the slack but once we had some incoming water everything was on the Spro.
