Had the Paul Lukas charter aboard today consisting of Paul, Marcel, Nick, and Steve.
Made the commitment to fish locally today on both of the reefs after a solid day yesterday, and with the forecast NW winds we all had high hopes.
Started out at the AC, Marcel immediately decked a nice 19" keeper. Kiss of death. What followed thereafter was a very very slow pick of some short fluke, too many skates to count, and a few ling and seabass. The S current from yesterday butted up against the N wind made for horrible drifting conditions. We bounced all around the reef, to no avail, until around 9 when I decided to power drift with the current. We had our best pick of the day when we did this, but couldn't keep it going as the wind shifted
Made a few more moves, even tried a couple of seabass drops, did squat.
Then we ran up to the SG Reef, and got into a solid pick of short fluke, and a few seabass. By now the wind was NE, and just when we got them going, it made another swing to the S.
Very tough day today, we only managed a few seabass and ling, and put ~30 fluke in the boat, boxing only 4 fish. Threw back about a dozen between 17.5-17.99999" Marcel the "Toxic Avenger" was high hook putting 2 in the box.
These guys were a great crew as always - we always have a blast and laugh our asses off even though the catching part today was no good. Some days ya get em', some days ya don't - today was not our day by any standard!
