Fellow Anglers,
Based upon calls from my fellow anglers and my close sources, it seems that currently the better fluke fishing have been on deep water rough bottoms in the ocean. Depths of 45-65 seem to be currently holding fish. Although nice size fish can still be caught in the back bays and deep water channel locations, fish in the 6,7 & 8 lb range seem to be holding around rocks and wrecks in the ocean. **If you know how to jig with Spro's.....do it!** A sure fire combination that works for me is a 4-6 oz Glo-Spro tipped with a strip of either bunker or mackerel.
Calls from friends tell me that the Ambrose Channel is not giving up the better fish yet! And I emphasize yet as Ambrose typically comes to life around the beginning of August through to the closing day of the Fluke season. Haven't heard many reports from the Sandy Hook Channel so I can't report on that location.
I'll be working charters on Sunday and Monday so I'll have more to report upon completion of those jobs.
