Being that we were short on time, we decided to run north right out of the inlet after hearing from a few thats where the big fish are. Got to the Red Church area and got setup for our drift with a bunch of other boats. Started picking shorts and sea robins immediately. Irish Ayes came to the same spot and a quick chat with him on the radio revealed he was doing the same.
The drift was so nice (SE) with not a whole lot of wind, that we decided to stay put and cover as much of the bottom there was possible so with each drift we moved proggressivley furthur north. After some of the boats moved out we picked up a nice fat 14" seabass, and another, and another, then another on the next drift. All keepers. It was getting close to run home time so we decided to go for one more drift to find the elusive 18"+ fluke.
Another short seabass, and finally just as we were about pick up, I boated an 18.0000000000001" fluke.
Total for the day was 4 fat seabass 12.5-14" and 1 fluke. Flat seas and blue water paved the way home at 3800 RPM.
Beautiful day on the water. Nice talking to ya Joe!
